Privacy Policy
Effective date: July 6, 2026 ยท Applies to the Eat ABQ Android application
Osterberg Apps LLC ("we," "us," or "our") built the Eat ABQ app as a free app. This page explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your choices.
1. Information We Collect
Information you provide directly
- Favorites & notes โ restaurants you heart and any personal notes you write are stored only on your device. We never transmit this data to our servers.
- App settings โ your theme, filter preferences, and wheel category choices are stored locally in the app's shared preferences.
- Promotion submissions โ if you submit a promotion as a business, we collect the promo details plus your name and email address, used only to review and publish the promotion and to contact you about it. This isn't shared publicly or with other users.
Information collected automatically (with your consent)
When you opt in to analytics during onboarding, we collect anonymous usage data via Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics:
- App events (wheel spins, screen views, restaurant navigations, filter usage)
- Crash reports and diagnostic information to help us fix bugs
- Device type, OS version, and app version
No personally identifiable information (name, email, phone number, or precise location) is linked to these events. You can withdraw consent at any time in Settings โ Privacy & Analytics.
Advertising
Eat ABQ may display banner ads served by Google AdMob (currently paused โ no ads are being shown). AdMob may use device identifiers and general location (country/region) to serve contextually relevant ads. Where required (for example, users in the EEA, UK, and Switzerland), the app shows Google's consent form before any ad is requested, and lets you review or change that choice any time via Settings โ About โ Ad Privacy Options. Everywhere else, you can still opt out of personalized ads via your Android device settings under Privacy โ Ads. See Google's privacy policy at policies.google.com/privacy.
2. Location Data
If you grant location permission, the app uses your device's location only to calculate approximate distances to restaurants. Location data is processed entirely on-device and is never sent to our servers.
3. Restaurant Data
The restaurant catalog is synced from our Firestore database so listings stay current without requiring an app update, with a bundled offline copy used as a fallback when Firestore can't be reached (e.g. no connectivity on first launch). The catalog itself contains only public restaurant information (name, cuisine, hours, price tier, rating, location) โ it does not include or transmit any of your personal data.
4. Third-Party Services
The following third-party services may process data according to their own privacy policies:
- Firebase Analytics, Crashlytics & Firestore (Google LLC)
- Google AdMob (Google LLC)
5. Data Retention & Deletion
Local data (favorites, notes, settings) is deleted when you uninstall the app, unless you've used the in-app Export My Data feature to save a copy yourself, or Android's own device-transfer tool has carried it to a new phone โ both are entirely under your control. Anonymous analytics data retained by Firebase follows Google's standard retention periods. To request deletion of any analytics data associated with your device, contact us at the address below.
6. Children's Privacy
Eat ABQ is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
7. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The effective date at the top of this page will reflect the most recent revision. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
